Grav differs from other CMS platforms such as Drupal or WordPress in its underlying technology. While it\u2019s a PHP app like those two, unlike them it does not have a database. All data is written directly to files on disk rather than stored and retrieved from a database. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grav is an open source platform with an active user community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why and when would you use Grav?<\/strong> Grav is a better choice for the technically-savvy user. It\u2019s not particularly difficult, as every CMS has a learning curve, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">although it <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">requires familiarity with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/kirkstrobeck.github.io\/whatismarkdown.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Markdown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a lightweight Markup language for formatting page content<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
